We’re from the very heart of hop country.
Like many great projects, we began with a late-night Trade Me search.
It turns out, searching the term ‘brewery’ wasn’t such a long shot after all. We found a brewery in rural Riuwaka and it was on!
In 2013, we moved from the big city life in Auckland with our daughter Lily. By September that year, we had opened as Hop Federation, a small independent brewery with just four New Zealand style ales.
Now, we’ve got a wider range of brews that are hop-forward, fresh and well known for exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Just good, clean beer.
Not to mention, our taproom in Riuwaka is the perfect place to stop when heading to or from Abel Tasman National Park. But wherever you are, it's the beer worth stopping for.
In 2020, we became part of Māori food and beverage family business, Kono.
With more than a decade of hop growing experience under their belts, they’re now farming eight different varieties over 34 hectares.
We take those tasty hops and create brews like our fresh hop beers, crafted using Nelson Sauvin hops from the Kono hop garden, Awamate.
You could say our dedication to brewing pairs nicely with the passion for hop farming that Kono has.
